Green Transportation Solutions

In response to global warming concerns, pollution and dependence on oil, we feel the time is right for new environmentally safe, fuel-efficient transportation options.

The technology now exists to reduce global warming pollution from cars, trucks and SUVs and we are doing our part to join the movement. Since transportation is the major source of air pollution, Barton & Barton, Ltd. wants to help its clients incorporate fuel-efficient and environmentally safe vehicles into their automotive and truck fleets.

Currently, 48 U.S. towns and cities in 36 states have green fleet programs, as do 26 county and 17 state governments. Police departments, school districts and taxi services are just a few of the significant participants in this movement. Are you interested in saving money and the environment at the same time? Being green could be good for your bottom line and your image.

If you are interested in being green, you can order "No-idle" signs and stickers for your town. Please contact us to find out how!

10 Tips to save energy and curb global warming

  1. Replace regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs.
  2. Replace outdoor lighting with a bulb or fixture equipped with a motion detector.
  3. Buy appliances that have the ENERGY STAR label from the Environmental Protection Agency, because they use less energy and water than standard models.
  4. Insulate walls and ceilings.
  5. Add insulation to the water heater.
  6. Lower water heater to 120 degrees and drain any sediment.
  7. Install low-flow shower heads and toilets.
  8. Check for and seal any cracks or gaps in walls - particularly common in older homes - with caulking and weather stripping.
  9. Lower home thermostat.
  10. Install a programmable thermostat to heat and cool rooms only when necessary.

Here, Maine Highway Commissioner Bob Provenzano, left, gives Illinois Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn his own copy of the GTS-developed Green Fleet Manual. Provenzano and GTS have been recognized statewide for fuel saving and cost cutting procedures with the highway department fleet. The occasion was the March 28 Green Conference held at Oakton Community College. The highway department was an exhibitor and also represented by GTS's Alex Barton who participated in a panel discussion.
